Redeeming feature
Some weeks ago you wrote that when buying a new car using the scrappage scheme the unused road tax was not redeemable. On October 7th 2009 I traded in my old car and took delivery of a Mazda 3 from Colliers Mazda (Birmingham). The changeover was seamless, handing over my keys to the old car and receiving my new keys within the hour. We were allowed to remove the tax disc which we took to the local DVLA along with relevant form V14 Application for a refund of vehicle tax, and 3 weeks later were reimbursed for the 6 full months unused.

The DVLA changed the rules in January 2009 stating that only the registered owner of a car could reclaim unused VED. There was a fuss about this when the scrappage scheme started and the DVLA
was then forced to relent, allowing the last registered keeper before scrappage to reclaim unused VED.
