My car has always had an engine light on but has passed the MoT for the last six years - will it pass this year?

It will very much depend on the age of your car. The MoT tester only needs to inspect the engine MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) fitted to diesel vehicles first registered on or after 1 July 2008 and petrols that were registered after 1 July 2003. Cars registered before these dates will not fail the MoT due to the engine warning light.
