Is a flashing engine light an automatic MoT fail?
I know a permanently on engine light is an MoT fail but is a flashing engine light an automatic MoT fail as well? Our 2012 Fiat Panda is running like a dream, with no stored fault codes but for some reason the engine light flashes.

This will be an MoT failure, as the light indicates a clear malfunction. I'd recommend having this fault fixed, as it might point towards a serious developing within the engine.
