What's a good used car for commuting?
I drive a BMW 535d and park outside my work. When I leave to go home I have had four marks on it, scratches, dents on various parts of the paintwork over the past two years. I have had enough of these hit and run drivers and was looking to see what you would recommend for a reliable small used car I could buy to save me bringing my pride and joy into my work. I am doing about 16 miles round trip a day.

16 miles a day won't be good for a diesel engine, so you'd be best buying a small petrol and saving your 535d for longer journeys. A Ford Fiesta with the 1.25-litre engine might be a good option - it ought to be reliable (avoid the EcoBoost engines) and it'll blend right in, so shouldn't be a magnet for damage. Alternatively, a Toyota Yaris will be very reliable.
