If I fit 17-inch wheels to my Hyundai i30 will I make the ride more harsh?

I am currently looking to upgrade my Hyundai i30's 16-inch wheels to 17-inch. Will this make the ride really harsh?

Obviously the ride will be harsher on 17-inch wheels than on 16-inch wheels because the tyres have to remain the same rolling circumference, so there is less tyre between the rim and the road with 17s than with 16s. The only car I have driven where the 15-inch tyres were (surprisingly) worse than the 17-inch was the Toyota Auris hybrid.
