Does my Land Rover Freelander have a DPF?

I keep hearing about the problems you get with diesel particulate filters if you make lots of short car journeys from cold. Can you tell me if the Land Rover Freelander TD4 ES 2002/2003 models have these filters? If you make lots of short journeys from cold, are you better off with a petrol engine rather that a diesel?

No, these models don't have them. Diesel has some lubricity and petrol doesn't, so repeated cold starts in a diesel can be better for the engine. The downside is that the compression and the glow plugs take a lot out of the battery.
