Is it true that diesel engines are unsuited to mainly short journeys?

Yes. This wasn't the case in the old days because the fuel offers better engine lubricity than petrol. But now that diesels have to carry complex anti-emissions equipment that relies on the vehicle being driven significant distances to regenerate, a diesel driven only short distances will clog them up.
