VW emissions scandal - Am I due compensation?

I have just received a letter from Volkswagen inviting me to make an appointment to have the software updated on my car to address the issue of the emissions scandal. Having just heard that it has agreed to pay out $15 billion to claims made in the US, I wonder what I should do? Are similar claims being made here? Should I get software updated? Should I sell?

Get it done. If enough owners got together in a Class Action then they could try to sue, but, after committing to $15 billion in the USA alone with a mere $3 billion allocated for the rest of the World, I think such legal action would be vetoed by the EC under pressure by Germany. If it bankrupted VAG you wouldn't get anything anyway.
