Should I buy a high mileage diesel?

I have been looking at ex-company cars (Astra, Focus, Megane etc) all diesel, under five years old, full history and just over 100,000 miles. My main concern is clutch problems (particularly with the Focus) as they aren't covered by warranty. But after some research on here I have been slightly put off diesel cars. However in this sector the majority of cars are diesel. Are they best avoided? What would be your advice?

Best avoided for a host of reasons: clutch and DMF, EGR, turbo, timing belt, DPF. Buy a 4 year old diesel with 100k miles for £4-5k and you could rapidly have to spend another £4k-£5k fixing it.
