Which is the best used buy - Mondeo or 3 Series?

I have a 2007 Ford Mondeo diesel and I want to replace it with a used car. Should I get another Mondeo - 2010 model - or go for a BMW 3 Series diesel from 2006 or 2007?

Unfortunately the BMW M57 2.0 diesel engine has been suffering a lot of timing chain failures and the chains are difficult and expensive to get at. So better the Mondeo 2.0TDI on which timing belt, tensioner and waterpump replacement every 60k - 70k is relatively straightforward. Avoid the Mondeo 1.8TDCI.
