Used car has broken down after 1 week - what are my rights?

I bought a 2006 Volkswagen Golf from a motor trader one week ago. Two days later noticed it was driving oddly. I took it to a mechanic who has told me that there is a problem with the throttle body and it will be a £500 part.

I paid £2100 for the car and was told it was in first class mechanical condition. The mechanic has told me that the problem would have been present to the dealer and they would certainly have known about it. The mechanic will do me a report for me to return the car to the dealer.

Can you give me some advice as to what my rights are in terms of getting the dealer to pay for the repair or refund my money?

Under the 2015 Consumer Rights Act you can reject the car within 30 days for any fault, so do that: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
