New job - new car - 20k annual commute - caravan tug

We have 2 vehicles a 2006 Kia Sorento which we use for towing a small caravan and a 2010 Peugeot Expert van hubby uses for work.

I need a car for a new job which requires a daily round trip of 60 miles on rural roads. Ideally I want to make the fuel savings justify the cost of purchasing and running an extra vehicle OR purchase a car which can tow the small caravan (1553 kg). I'm assuming the trade in for the Sorento would be peanuts.

Help!

Unfortunately the new Honda HR-V 1.6iDTEC can only tow 1,400kg, which is unfortunate because mine is good to drive and is doing 60mpg. But Toyota is stating that its new RAV-4 2.5 petrol hybrid can tug 1,650kg and that might be the (relatively expensive) answer. Sadly, the Sorento will fetch buttons so it might make more sense to keep it until it drops and buy a small, cheap diesel such as a Dacia Sandero 1.5DCI for your commute, then p/x that for a reasonably economical caravan tower when the Sorento eventually dies.
