My Audi A1 has a strange engine noise - any ideas?

Would you mind listening to these two clips (if my uploading skills have worked!)

Background: Audi UK say this is a normal characteristic of the engine. If this is the case, I am disappointed as for the first two years (since new), I have only been able to hear a quiet engine that sounded like a car. Consequently I have been diddled out of the pleasure, and have had to wait over two years, before I get a 'the normal characteristic' that sounds like a tractor first thing every mornning

Two separate Audi dealerships have said they should make this sound! Now, am I being paranoid or does this sound awful

It's a chain cam engine and, as they age, a lot of them make this sort of noise (especially Peugeot/Citroen/MINI 1.6). It's the chain and the tensioner not getting enough oil initially. So an oil flush and oil and filter change might help. The chains on these 1.2 VWG engines were of very variable quality because to meet VWG's price the supplier made the stamping tools last longer and as they became worn the links were less perfect than the would have been if stamped by new machinery.
