How can I check a vehicle's tax status?

With the ending of the issuing of tax discs to be displayed in the windscreen, how can I be certain that a car or van I borrow is taxed? I assume that as a driver I am still liable if I drive a car without tax?

You can check online if a registration is taxed. This explains the whole thing: www.nidirect.gov.uk/abolition-of-the-vehicle-tax-d...c
