Paying for repairs after car hit my dog

A few days ago my dog got loose and ran in front of a car. Thankfully the dog only had minor injuries, but there was some damage to the car which I have agreed to make good. I have got a quote from the garage that has done all previous body work for me and it is very competitive.

The person that owns the car is known to me and has come back with three quotes that are £300+ in excess of the quote that I have received for the same work. I have told them that I am willing to pay for the repairs, with my garage, and they said no because they do not like the garage.

My gut feeling is that there is a scam in play here in relation to the pumped up quotes. How should I deal with this?

Tell him you will pay for the car to be repaired at your garage or will give him the money it would cost you to have his car repaired at your garage so he can get it repaired elsewhere.

If he wants you to pay for a more expensive repair than you have offered he can take the matter to the small claims track of the county court which will question why he is not trying to "mitigate his expense".
