Are loading bays just for trade vehicles?

I visited London recently to pick up some furniture and subsequently received a parking ticket and a photograph of my car. Thinking I might have inadvertently parked on a red route or similar, I paid up. In the following days,

I had a nagging feeling that I had parked quite legally and, on going back to London a week or so later, I drove to the same place and saw that I had parked in a loading bay. I have requested the return of my £65 and have now been told that this loading bay is only for trade vehicles. Can this be right?

The ticket you originally received should have given details of the independent parking adjudicator so that you can appeal to over such matters.
