Can I sue over wrongly issued parking tickets?

I regularly work in Salford, Manchester and leave my car in a public car park which has three hours free or £5 per day. I always pay full £5 and display the ticket. Recently, they sent me two tickets for parking longer than three hours. I keep all tickets/receipts as I am self-employed.

I sent a letter disputing with copies attached, they then waived without any apologies. They sent another ticket today and I am frustrated having to type and waste my time responding to them. They rely on entry/exit camera rather than parking attendant to issue fines.

Can I sue them as its causing me lots of hassle in this financial hardship?

This time, write to them telling them that you always buy a ticket and you always keep the tickets for your accounts. If they pull this stunt again you will allow the case to go all the way to small claims and will then counterclaim against them for unnecessary harassment and wasted time.

Also point out that to obtain your keepership details from the DVLA solely on the basis of entry and exit cameras without showing 'just cause' is actually an illegal breach of the Data Protection Act and you will be reporting them to the Information Commissioner for this.
