Buying used - Civic or BMW 318d?

I need to change my car and have a choice between a 2010 Honda Civic 2.2 I-ctdi se (95,400 miles) or a 2009 BMW 318d with 114,300 miles.

I understand that the Honda doesn't have DPF, what is quite good, but I am worried about corrosion. What do you suggest, I cover 4000 miles a year and the price between the two cars is just £100.

The BMW will have a DPF but they don't seem to have been much trouble. However, your choice is not between these two cars. There are hundreds of thousands of others out there. Why stump for diesel when for your type of use a petrol engine such as a Honda Civic 1.8iVTEC would be cheaper, newer and probably more reliable? See the entries in www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar
