How can we recoup our costs against dishonest driver who hit our car?

My son's car was hit in the side by a pick-up truck trying to execute an illegal U-turn. The driver of the truck admitted it was his fault and provided contact details, which later were found to be false.

The incident was reported to the police, and we have eventually been able to trace the truck and driver through his employer. He has, of course, now denied it was his fault.

The car has now been taken to the workshop by my son's insurance company. Could you advise how we should proceed to re-coup the excess and loss of no-claims bonus?

Report to your insurer. Sue the driver directly using the small claims track of the county court for any loss you incur, including loss of NCD, loss of excess, etc.
