Running a red light resulting in NIP - not my fault?

At a rural crossroads with operating traffic lights there are workmen with manual stop/go boards. I have a red light but the workman is holding a green Go sign. Reluctant to proceed the manual operator is waving furiously urging me to hurry up. I cross the red light obeying the manual operator. I have received a NIP for contravention of red light signal - camera. [allegation supported by photo and/or video evidence]. What is my position and what is your advice?
