Can you ask your readers to check whether their insurance includes third party other vehicle cover?

I sit as a magistrate in the Midlands and would ask that this, if used, is done so anonymously. Over the last few months my colleagues and I have been dealing with a significant number of motorists who are being charged for driving without insurance. They have driven a friend or relative’s car with permission and assumed that they had third party insurance as part of their own comprehensive insurance. Sadly, insurers now seem less likely to give this third party cover as standard, as part of a comprehensive policy. Drivers have an absolute duty to check that they have insurance cover when they drive on the road, and assuming you have cover when you don’t could cost you six penalty points plus a significant fine.

A fair reminder. Especially as you imply these drivers simply did not realise that third party cover to drive other cars had been withdrawn.
