Tyres perishing after being left in sun - can they be recovered?

I have a BMW X5 in Spain that spends long periods sat in the sun. The car has completed 16,000km over the past four years and the tyres are cracking on the sidewalls. Is there anything I can spray on or paint on that will overcome this problem, and are these tyres safe to continue to use? The tread is "as new".

No, it needs new tyres. What you should do is completely cover the car when you leave it, with wheel-sized covers to keep UV rays off the tyres. That's what they do in really hot areas like Thailand, Malaysia and Bali.
