Why didn't I try not sitting on my wallet before?

On my regular commute from Le Havre to Barcelona in the 1980s I suffered pain in the sciatic nerve. Eventually, after trying everything, I took my wallet from the right hip pocket and thereafter my XJ6 and I had no further problems.

It never occurred to me because I have never carried a wallet in a back pocket. Or a phone, for that matter. I can't imagine why anyone sitting on a wallet would expect to be comfortable.
