Parking up the wrong tree

My husband today was at Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet. As it was early afternoon the car park was full. With him was his elderly brother in law who needed the toilet. My husband saw parking spaces at the rear of the multi storey. He saw others parking there and parked the car.

As he was meeting me and other family members we returned to the car within 30 minutes. On our return we found a parking charge on the windscreen, asking for £100 within 28 days or £60 within 14 days.

There was nothing to indicate we could not park there. However, afterwards we noticed about 20 yards away a small sign saying it was a staff parking area only. I will appeal but should it fail should I offer to pay a small token amount, as a gesture of goodwill.

The law governing this has now changed. honestjohn.co.uk/faq/private-parking-penalties/ But inadequate signage remains grounds for appeal if the case ever went to court. Be sure to photograph the inadequate signs.
