I bought a suspicious used Audi through the Audi Approved scheme - who is liable?

In January I bought a used Audi which I sourced through the Audi website, as it claimed that all vehicles have a service history check and will have a clean, completely transparent record. I have no complaints about the car, but six months later I no longer required it so I tried to sell it. At this point I discovered that there was no engine number on the V5C, that it was not a UK-supplied car and that it had had been used in Cyprus.

I also discovered that, despite being just over two years old, there was only a duplicate service book and no registration showing which car it referred to. I called the garage that was stamped in the service book who said they had no knowledge of the vehicle. Do I have a legal claim against either Audi UK or the Audi dealer? I feel this makes a mockery of the so-called Audi Approved Used Car Programme.

Your claim is not against Audi, it is against the dealer who sold you the car misleadingly under the Audi Approved Programme. The claim is for misrepresentation and may also be a Criminal Offence under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008/1378 and The Unfair Commercial Practices Directive 2005/29/EC.
