Nervous about buying car for £2000

My 1998 Ford Fiesta needs retiring. As I have just cleared a lot of debt I am very nervous about getting a loan and do not want to spend more than £2000 ideally. I know very little about cars.

I would be interested to know if you think I can get anything decent for my money (my mechanic doesn't think I can!). What should I look for in terms of mileage and age? Are Fiestas still good cars?

I would like power steering, four doors and a sunroof if possible - and an engine size of at least 1.2-litre.

The car doesn't need to go uber-fast, but no slower than my Fiesta. Any help gratefully received!

£2k is best spent on a Toyota Yaris, but you still need to be careful.
