Which Mondeo Estate?

I want to replace my disappointing Mazda 6 Estate - 2.0 TDCI (121ps), partly because the local Mazda dealer (RRG) tells me that my frequent local journeys do not suit a TDCI engine and that's why its DPF lamp keeps instructing me to drive back to them to spend more money. (Their sales chap said that I should be running a TDCI for around 30 minutes a week at over 50 mph!)

I still want the car to meet my needs, ie: golf - space for two sets of clubs & trolleys, etc; good access for our Labrador dog and luggage (often at the same time); towing a small caravan and lasting for at least 5 years / 70K miles.

I had thought I'd get a used mark IV Mondeo 2.0 TDCI estate, but now have cold feet about TDCI maintenance costs.

Do Ford TDCI engines also need regular long journeys? Would a petrol Mondeo have enough torque to pull 750Kg comfortably? What do you recommend?

Yes. You need a petrol engine. Maybe the Mondeo 1.6 Ecoboost 160. Smaller, maybe an Astra 1.4T 140.
