New or upmarket used?

I am buying something to replace my ageing Volvo.

I was looking at the Hyundai i30 or Skoda Rapid when it occurred to me that I might be better off going upmarket and used in a similar price range.

The BMW Series 3 diesel Tourer Auto looks appealing. I am interested in fuel economy and I cannot use a clutch, I am 67 years old. The car will be used both locally and for Continental touring.

If you go for an Efficient Dynamics BMW diesel then you need to drive it distances regularly. But nice torque converter autoboxes.
