Off-road car for Ethiopia

My son and daughter in law are posted to Addis Ababa and need a reliable 4x4 that is good off road. They have been advised that unleaded petrol is hard to find away from the capital, they have also been advised that Toyota spare parts are most plentiful.

I am lead to believe there are three possible options in Ethiopia one of which is the Fotuner, which is not available in the UK. Your advice as to which model would be most suitable to the Ethiopian environment or what other make and model you would recommend would be most helpful?

The Fortuner is quite a crude SUV based on the Toyota HiLux pickup dating back to 2005 and has a live rear axle. Available with 2.5 and 3.0 4 cylinder belt cam diesel engines or a 2.7 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine. But obviously best to get a model that is most prevalent so there are more parts and more local knowledge available to fix crash damage or make repairs. it's covered here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/toyota/fortuner-2005/
