VW Scirocco Active Chassis Control - faulty sensors

I have a three-year one-month old VW Scirocco, owned since new. Serviced one month ago, and one month out of waranty. Problem now of two faulty Active Chassis Control sensors. £700 to replace.

Is this a common problem?

Cost seems disproportionate, to say the least.

Particularly as you don't really need the system. Will add to car by car.
