Hybrid cars and air-con

I am considering the purchase of a small hybrid car. Under electric motor only driving conditions, if I select the heater or air conditioning on, am I correct in thinking that the engine will automatically start and run at idle ?

Could do, yes. Depends on how run down the battery becomes. Recommend the Yaris hybrid: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/toyota/toyota-yari.../
