test driving / puchasing a 2005 ford focus 1.6 tdci

Test drove a 2005 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI Titanium yesterday - every thing seemed okay, the car had four people inside and had the a/c turned on and it still pulled very well indeed!

It's done 88000 miles - that's quite a lot! I'm pretty clueless when it comes to cars, it dove similar to my dad's 2010 model except there was a bit more vibration through the pedals and gearbox in the 2005 one, and the gearbox wasn't as smooth.

Is there any thing in particular I should look out for before I buy the car?

Definitely. This is the most fault prone Focus: turbo, dpf, dmf and egr. Readers have bought these cars for £3,500, then had to spend £4,000 +. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/ford/focus-2004/?sec...d
