We don't want our car written off.

My daughter had her bag stolen from her local gym. Her car keys were in the bag and the car was subsequently stolen. It is a 51 plate Toyota Yaris previously owbed by her grandmother in excellent condition with only 24,000 on the clock.

The vehicle was found abandoned by the police after it had a minor colision with another vehicle. It has now been recovered by the insurers, Hastings to 'a salvage agent' and is waiting inspection by their assessor.

We were told by the police there is no apparent damage. The insurance company however appear very keen to write off the vehicle - the tax disc has already been returned by the 'salvage agent' and a letter received from Hastings asking us to send V5C, MOT, Keys etc.

It appearss to me that in their mind it is already written off despite not yet being inspected. Assuming the damage is minor, what options do we have to keep this fantastic little car on the road?

Demand to keep the car. That is your right. Your insurer has no right to write off your property without your permission.
