Concrete jumble

A cement lorry hit the back of my car in April. All sorted out as I have fully comp insurance. Yesterday I had a letter from my insurer, LV, asking me to let them involve a solicitor to reclaim my uninsured losses and their outlay on my claim. I thought this was the whole point of insurance for them to sort out the details and repair my car for the annual premium I pay. I have already had some firm telling me how they can get money for me and they were sent packing as per your advice, but why would my insurer do this?

LV has paid for the repairs promptly and now needs to recover its losses from the other party's insurer.
