Seven up

I have a friend who has a FIAT Multipla and asked my advice about buying something different. He has 12 grand children but doesn't want a people carrier. He's looking for a new or preferably second hand car that's suitable for taking five adults in comfort but has the option of two extra seats for small children if required. I used to have a seven seater Montego Estate which had optional rear facing seats but that was a few years ago. Other than a people carrier, what do you think would be the best option for a seven seater? He's happy with petrol or diesel and does not mind a high mileage quality vehicle.

A Ford S-Max. Mondeo based and drives better than most cars. But if he insists on a station wagon, then a Peugeot 307 or 308 SW with two extra seats in the load area. I’m not keen on Mercedes E Class estates and Volvo V70s with extra rear-facing seats in the back.
