Questionable judgement - I paid my bit; he didn't pay his!

I have been having some terrible problems sorting out a money matter. As far as I am concerned I have made full and final payment to the company involved and indeed have an email and letter to say as much. However I keep receiving threatening phone calls and letters demanding more money that I do not believe I owe. They are threatening County Court Proceedings now.

Please can you help me clear this matter up, as I thought I had done my best to sort it out myself but seem to be getting no-where. I rather foolishly took out an agreement for the lease-hire of a vehicle that was never used by me, but by a boyfriend. This then unfortunately accumulated some fines for congestion charges in London, never in my name.

I do not have a full driving licence in fact and have never passed my driving test. The vehicle was taken back by Citroen in August 2010 and in October I came to an agreement for full and final payment. I have enclosed a copy of the latest letter from Citroen and a copy of the email that I was sent to confirm full and final payment. I do also have a letter to confirm payment and I will send this to you as soon as I find it if you need this, however the email does also confirm this.

As soon as I try to sort this out with one person by telephone, they do not return calls and then I receive a letter from someone else in another department. I am scared by the threat of County Court proceeding and I would like this matter to be over once and for all. I have had a worrying year having just divorced and sold my house and this is just one more thing on top of it all.

I also believe this is affecting my credit rating which was perfect until this matter. Hoping you can help. I enjoy reading your advice in the paper.

As the lessee, and the registered keeper you remain liable for any penalties accumulated by drivers of the car while you were the lessee and keeper. Time to countersue the boyfriend (or ex-boyfriend) who accumulated them.
