One good turn

Agreeing with you about right turning cars getting out of the way of traffic behind them, if they possibly can, a more important point about staying parallel, is also to keep the front wheels parallel with the centre line. Should you then be hit from behind by another vehicle you will be pushed straight ahead rather than in the direction the steering is turned, which could be into the path of vehicles travelling towards you from the opposite direction.
