Insurance write-off help

Just before Christmas I had a collsion with some unseen bollards. The car is driveable but obviously we wanted repairs so contacted our insurers, Hastings Direct.

After a long delay we have been told the car is a write-off.

We won't get details until next week, but we have been told that we cannot get the car back. We will be without crash repairers (nationwide) loan car from next weds.

Basically is it normal for insurer to refuse to allow us to have car back? Is this some quirk unique to Hastings?

Can we claim anything for my transport costs whilst i am without a car (from next weds)?

You can demand your car back not written off and a financial settlement. Your insurer has absolutely no right to deprive you of a drivable, repairable car. But it does not have to settle with you for more than the pre-write off value of the car.
