Winter tyres - worth it?

I don't do much winter driving around the home counties, and my service place says that they are not necessary.

However, is it worth spending £900 on winter tyres for a Volvo S80, it has 225/50/17 fitment and new Continentals. I do not seem able to find all weather tyres at all.

Try www.event-tyres.co.uk for all weather tyres. But you could take a gamble on there only being a couple of week's snow. On the other hand, if it snows by the weekend, all winter tyres left in stock will instantly be sold.
