EEC Diesel Tax

Read that EEC are proposing to base fuel tax on energy content rather than volume and to have separate taxes for carbon dioxide and fuel.

This could increase the UK diesel fuel price by up to 25%. Since diesel is more efficient and emits less CO2 this seems crazy.

Plus it would probably hurt the diesel car market. Wonder if you have heard anything about this? I am concerned as I have a new diesel on order.

No. But such a tax would increase inflation by around 10% because it would increase the road freight transportation cost of everything we live on.
