Timing belt snapped on first journey

I purchased a Volvo C70 convertible on 25th March from a Birmingham car dealer that stocks over 50 cars.

The timing belt snapped on the way home between Birmingham and Worcester, a journey of less than 30 miles. The car was collected on 26th March for the engine to be investigated and repaired.

16 valves required replacement and to my knowledge this has been done. One of the tension bolts snapped on fitting the repaired head and now the saga continues. I still have not had the car back and the owner of the company refuses to give a refund.

He believes he is doing me a favour as the one month 50/50 warranty supplied stated the timing belt is not covered. He thinks he is going above and beyond what he should do. Am I entitled to money back and do I have a case? He never rings back when he promises to update the status of the repair.

He has to either fix the car or give you your money back. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/ A lot of car dealers pretend not to know the law. But, of course, they do.
