Correct tyre/wheel size

I have not before taken too much notice of the tyre size fitted to my Peugeot 308 SE HDi 6-speed manual diesel 1997cc (registered Nov 2007).

However I have just noticed that the tyres fitted by the Peugeot main dealer from whom I bought the car are 215/55 R16 93V, the wheel size is 17". To a non-expert this seems rather strange and appears to be different to the variations given by tyreshopper.com

Could you advise if the tyres I have are OK - presumably the overall diameter is different from the standard?

That is not possible because 16" tyres cannot be fitted to 17" wheels. The car will be on 16" wheels.
