Should I buy a MINI Countryman PHEV?

I am thinking of buying a used MINI Countryman - either a 1.5 or 2.0 petrol auto, or the hybrid.

Firstly, with careful driving would there be any real difference in the mpg? The bigger engine might cope more easily though all my journeys are solo. I am very light footed.

Second, quite a lot of my motoring is local, i.e. under 30 miles and I am wondering if the petrol hybrid, though costlier to buy used, would depreciate less over the next few years. I can easily charge at home. Thoughts?

Our readers report seeing 40.6mpg on average from the MINI Countryman Cooper or 34.2mpg from the Cooper S: www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/mini/countryman-2017
Obviously, these figures will be very dependent on how the car's driven and you should be able to improve on them quite significantly if you're a light-footed driver.

As you can charge at home, though, and most of your journeys are short, a plug-in hybrid sounds ideal for your needs. The MINI Countryman PHEV has an electric range of up to 26 miles, which means you probably won't have to visit the petrol station very much at all. You're right, too, that demand for plug-in vehicles is likely to increase over the coming years which means the Countryman PHEV could hold onto its value well.
