Informed DVLA of a medical issue - when will I hear back?

Three months ago I suffered a medical issue which I had to inform the DVLA of. I am not allowed to drive until I hear back from them. I am now feeling better, but cannot yet return to work as I am unable to drive.

I know the DVLA has a large COVID backlog, but when am I likely to hear anything? I actually managed to get through to them on the phone, but it was pointless as the person said it was "with the medical department" and they didn't know how long it would take for me to receive an update. Soooooo frustrating!

It is difficult to say how long you will have to wait. The DVLA has said that by the end of September it will process 90 per cent of medical driving licence applications in 90 days but currently we are aware of many drivers who are waiting much longer than that.

As you've already tried phoning, you could write directly to the medical department: Drivers' Medical Enquiries, DVLA, Swansea SA99 1TU

Or make a formal complaint online via the DVLA's website.
