Can I remove the diesel particulate filter on my car?

I need a diesel car for towing a caravan, and have been considering a 2010 XC70 with the 205ps Geartronic D5 engine. I don't use the car for really short journeys, but I am concerned that with such a high torque, high geared engine my normal driving won't let the DPF regenerate.

I see that there are numerous companies offering to remap the ECU and remove the DPF, but with claims for increased power. I don't need the power increase and it would only lead to my insurance premuim going up. Is it feasible to remove the DPF and remap the ECU and mapping it back to the manufacturer's power and torque setting? What companies could do this?

Removing the DPF could render the car illegal. There is no specific law yet, but it could come.
