Despite its somewhat boastful "Just like a Golf" advertising campaign, presumably Volkswagen will not be comparing the aircon systems of other cars with its own. My Golf V Sport (just a few weeks past the three year warranty period and with only 22,000 miles on the clock) has apparently suffered a serious air-conditioning failure requiring total replacement of the unit and extensive work to remove the debris left in the system. The VW representative went on to say that total failure in the Golf was not uncommon and very expensive to repair. Are you aware of this problem and more importantly, should I have to pay for this work?
