Couped up in the back?

I think you recently wrote on BMW 3 Coupe and Audi A5, your recommendation was the BMW due to rear seat space and you made some comments to avoid deep low profile tyres; could you elaborate on all the above points?

Yes. The E92 BMW 3-Series coupe has more rear leg and headroom than the A5 and it is nicer to ride in the back. I thought it also has a bigger boot. (The figures are in my road tests at hjuk.) The bigger the wheels, the less tyre there will be between the rims and the road. Wide, ultra low profile tyres rob a car of steering feel, destroy the ride quality and are vulnerable to damage from potholes and road humps. So 16s better than 17s. 17s better than 18s. And try to avoid 19s or 20s entirely. ‘Which?’ has recently reported A5 reliability issues, though these may have been teething troubles with the new Audi drivetrain pioneered in the A5.
