I am considering a purchase of a Hyundai i20 for my wife. Partly on
recommendations you have made in your columns. As my wife does not do an excessive amount of driving the plan is to go for a petrol version. The car will do the usual short trips with something like 6000 miles per year on longer journeys. My dilemma is should I go for the 1.2 or the 1.4 petrol engine? Which model would have better residual value the basic 'Classic' or the mid range 'Comfort'? The car is sold in the standard colour of red with the option to choose either silver, grey, blue, green or black, this may be a rather subjective point but which if any is the better colour to select?

What I would do is simply minimise the cost of the thing in the first
place and then you will lose the least. If a £6,500 car is worth £4,000 in two years time you've lost £2,500 in 2 years, which is acceptable. If a £10,000 car is worth £6,000 in two years time you've lost £4,000 in 2 years.
