I bought a 2005 Alfa Romeo 156 2.4 JTD Sportwagon last June from an Alfa franchise. Since then the front tyres have had to be replaced due to excessive wear on the inside edges. I am informed by the dealership that the official tolerance for the front tyres is only 8k miles. They also mentioned the inside camber setting of the wheels. Surely this must be a serious design fault? Your comments please?

Alfa 156s, GTs and 159s are set up slightly toed out. This is what gives them the front-end grip and steering feel drivers enjoy. The penalty is wear on the inner shoulders. You can have it adjusted to toe parallel, but will lose some steering feel and some front-end grip. Talk to www.alignmycar.co.uk (This isn’t the same issue as tyre inner shoulders getting chewed up by speed cushions. Now that many speed cushions are crumbling at the edges these are becoming lethal to tyres, damaging them where the driver can’t see the damage.)
