February 2011
2.0 JTDM-2 140PS introduced
New 2.0 JTDM-2 140 bhp for both company car drivers and private owners requiring low fuel consumption and low running costs combined with driving comfort for long trips.
The 2.0 JTDM-2 140 is equipped with the latest generation JTDM-2MultiJet Common Rail system that is already present on the 1.6 JTDM-2 (105 bhp) and the 2.0 JTDM-2 (170 bhp) power units. The system represents the most technologically advanced solution for controlling high injection pressures (around 1600 bar) independently of engine RPM and quantity of fuel injected.
This technology, combined with an electronically controlled variable geometry turbocharger, guarantees excellent torque delivery: 350 Nm at just 1750 rpm (with the D.N.A. selector in Dynamic position) and 320 Nm at 1500 rpm (in Normal) – giving it the highest torque in its class compared to similarly efficient and powerful engines.
This new Alfa Romeo Giulietta is EC certificated at 119 g/km and 62.8 mpg in the combined cycle, has a top speed of 127 mph and acceleration from 0 - 62 mph in 9 seconds. The engine is designed for customers who appreciate excellent throttle response but are also concerned with fuel consumption and running costs. In real terms, with a 13% BIK (Benefit in Kind) rate, 40% tax bracket company car drivers will pay as little as £90 a month in company car tax for the Lusso trim version.
The engine is Euro 5 compliant and is equipped with DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and Start&Stop as standard. Moreover, advanced exhaust gas treatment technologies have been used, namely a close coupled diesel particulate filter and a built-in EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system that improves control of temperature and gas flow, simultaneously guaranteeing lower emissions and reduced fuel consumption.
Lastly, the 2.0 JTDM-2 140 bhp boasts a particularly long servicing interval, thus minimising work required on the vehicle during its life cycle and cutting its running costs. The fact that the car only needs servicing every 21,000 miles is a testament to the high quality levels achieved and the efforts made to improve durability and efficiency even further, by means of careful work on individual components. How this will work out in real life is another matter entirely.
March 2012
Alfa Giulietta TCT introduced
Available in Lusso or Veloce trim levels on the Giulietta, the latest generation Alfa TCT (Twin Clutch Transmission) dry dual clutch semi-automatic transmission is the class benchmark for its effectiveness in balancing high performance, low fuel consumption and low emissions, and is combined in the Giulietta with the 1.4 TB MultiAir 170 bhp and 2.0 JTDM-2 170 bhp engines.
Equipped with the 1.4 TB MultiAir 170 bhp engine, the Giulietta TCT's top speed is 135 mph with just 7.7 seconds needed to accelerate from 0 - 62 mph. Even with this excellent performance, fuel consumption and emissions are extraordinarily low: 54.3 mpg over a Combined Cycle and 121 g/km of CO2 - values that make the Giulietta one of the most environmentally-friendly and efficient petrol-powered compacts on the market, even when compared to manual gearbox competitors with lower power ratings and performance.
When combined with the 2.0 JTDM-2 170 bhp diesel engine, ALFA TCT values continue to impress. In fact, compared to the same manual gearbox version, acceleration from 0 - 62 mph is improved from 8.0 seconds to 7.9 seconds, fuel consumption (Combined Cycle) improves from 60.4 mpg to 62.8 mpg, while CO2 emissions reach a record level for an engine of this power: 119 g/km (124 g/km with the manual gearbox). Low running costs together with low fuel consumption make it an ideal choice for company fleets.

The Giulietta’s signature blend of practicality and style are enhanced with sports leather upholstery plus a rear armrest with storage compartment and sport kick plates. The Alfa Giulietta Sportiva is available with a choice of six engines and including the new technologically advanced twin dry-clutch semi-automatic ALFA TCT, starting at £23,110 OTR for the 1.6 JTD M-2 105bhp.
October 2013
Revised 2014 range announced
The new 150 HP 2.0 JTDM engine is making its first appearance with the 2014 range. It is equipped with the second-generation MultiJet injection system that both optimises engine combustion in all operating conditions and ensures reduction in fuel consumption and noise at the same time.
The other new engines are 120PS and 170PS versions of the 1.4 MultiAir petrol.
New paint finishes for 2014 include Moonlight Pearl, Anodizzato Blue and Bronze. The new look of the front grille and the chrome-plated frame of the foglights renew its front. The front headlights have DRL with LED technology and a day light function for maximum active safety. The innovative rear lights use LED technology in the same way, which serves not only a stylish purpose but also preventive safety.
June 2014
New Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde launched
On sale in July with prices starting from £28,120 OTR. The first examples to reach showrooms will be the special Launch Edition model which builds on the specification of the standard Quadrifoglio Verde but adding carbon-fibre mirror covers, a carbon-fibre rear spoiler, distinctive new side skirts, a front air dam, a rear diffuser, 18-inch 5-hole alloy wheels with a burnished finish and a unique numbered plaque.
Just 500 examples will be built in total with 100 coming to the UK in July priced from £30,280 OTR. The standard colour will be Alfa Red (a £510 option on the standard Alfa Romeo Giulietta) with matte Magnesio Grey and 8C Red optional.
July 2015
Giulietta engine range revised
The 1.6 JTDM-2 diesel engine not only benefits from a reduction in emissions from 104g/km to 99g/km, thanks to the addition of a variable-geometry turbo charger and low rolling-resistance tyres, it also brings an increase in power from 105PS to 120PS. The drop in emissions results in a one percent BIK reduction to 17 percent and the annual Road Fund Licence is now £0.
The uprated engine improves the 0-62mph by 1.3 seconds to just 10.0 seconds. At the same time, the new Giulietta 1.6 JTDM-2 can now return 74.3mpg on the official combined fuel economy cycle, a significant improvement over the impressive 70.6mpg recorded by the current 1.6 JTDM2 105PS engine.
Indeed, every engine is now compliant with the latest Euro 6 regulations and (with the exception of the recently-introduced 2.0 JTDM-2turbo diesel 150PS) sees its emissions and economy improved, resulting in a one percent BIK reduction on all engines from the entry-level 1.4 Turbo Petrol 120PS to the 1750TBi 240PS TCT unit that powers the high-performance Quadrifoglio Verde version, while the 1.4 MultiAir Turbo Petrol 150PS and 170PS engines slip into a lower emissions band, reducing the OTR price by £130 and annual running costs even further.
Pricing for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta range remains unchanged despite the engine upgrades, with pricing for the 1.4 TB 120PS Progression starting at £18,450 OTR and the 1.6 JTDM-2 120PS Progression priced from £19,500 OTR. Pricing for the Business Edition range, which feature a 6.5-inch touchscreen Uconnect infotainment system with voice activated satellite navigation, 3D mapping and DAB digital radio; front and rear parking sensors; automatic lights and wipers; alloy wheels and metallic paint all as standard, start from just £19,080 OTR for the 1.6 JTDM-2 120PS turbo diesel.
